**be sure to read the info about "Drops" at the bottom of the page!
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Read the syllabus for each class -- this is the course contract that you are required to follow.;
- Check your emails daily! (FHS & college emails): (SEE LINK BELOW FOR INFORMATION ON HOW TO FIND YOUR MyMAC ID & PASSWORD along with your MAC GMAIL, which uses the same password)
- Before taking a class, be sure it transfers to your next college/university (see the link below);
- Daily attendance is vital! Students in college classes should not miss more than 6 classes per semester -- missing 6 daily classes in a semester on the MAC campus results in you being dropped from class....and you still have to pay for it! Latework, "retests," and missing assignments are not an option, and will result in a grade of "F"!
- Pay your institutions on or before their deadlines & keep a receipt (check college/university websites for dates; call them if you are unsure);
- MAC sends your bill to collections after FHS graduation if you miss the deadline (Fall is 12/1, Spring is 5/1) but IMMEDIATELY puts a "hold" on your account (no future enrollment or transcripts until paid);
- Also, MAC only allows a student a maximum of 5 dual credit transfer-in courses from other institutions; for example, if you take 3 years of Biomed through Mo S&T, and then 2 math classes through MoBap, then that is the maximum number of courses that MAC will accept for an AA or 42 hour gen ed block
- MoBAP DROPS you from the course enrollment and there is NO appeal (student/parent/school is not notified of the drop for non-payment by the deadline -- Fall is 11/15, Spring is 4/15);
- MAC sends your bill to collections after FHS graduation if you miss the deadline (Fall is 12/1, Spring is 5/1) but IMMEDIATELY puts a "hold" on your account (no future enrollment or transcripts until paid);
- college workload is quite different from high school gen ed courses (it is like skipping a couple of grade levels!);
- no changing teachers after you complete the college paperwork to enroll;
- college rule: for each college class, you should expect to spend between 5-9 hours per week on outside assignments, homework, & studying for tests;
- NO RETESTS in college classes, so STUDY! and you rarely get study guides, so you must learn to study correctly and not merely memorize your way through a course -- college classes require development and regular use of critical thinking skills;
- DEADLINES and DUE DATES matter: No late work in college classes (you earn ZEROS ); don't wait until the last minute to do your work, plan to work on each college subject daily;
- Varsity athletes: recommendation is 12-15 hours max per semester; Students in band or those who work more than 20 hours per week: recommendation is 12-18 hours max per semester;
- Overload (more than 18 hours per semester) must be approved by the Dean of Arts & Sciences at MAC, and this is only granted to students with a near perfect college GPA; General guideline from MAC has been:
- MAC GPA 0.0-2.9: no overload (15 hours max for the semester)
- MAC GPA 3.0-3.25: may take 1 class overload (18 hours max for the semester) without dean's permission
- MAC GPA 3.26-3.50: make take 2 classes overload (not to exceed 21 hours); requires dean's permission
- MAC GPA 3.6-4.0: may take 3 classes overload (never to exceed 24 hours); requires dean's permission
- Homebound and college classes presents a serious issue ;
- You still must pay in full for the class(es) -- not covered by any scholarship;
- You must drop by the institution's drop date (consult their calendar) to receive a non-failing grade; failure to meet that deadline will result in an "F" on your college transcript!
- You must use the institution's correct drop form (located outside the counseling center in the back hallway by the college bulletin board); it must contain your signature (have your parent sign below as well) and your instructor's signature; turn it in to Ms. Andrea Richardson on or before the "drop date" listed on either your paperwork copies or the institution's website
