"In a nutshell" for dual credit (the enrollment process itself):
- Listen carefully to the presentation/take notes/complete application (first Friday for MAC, bring your chromebook and pen along with your full transcript from your teacher, & first Monday for MoBap -- in your classroom) -- MAKE SURE TO GET THE CORRECT RECOMMENDATION FORM IF YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BASED ON THE GUIDELINES (check your GPA on your transcript) listed in the ADVISEMENT section (link is below); IF you are absent the day of the presentation(s), it is YOUR responsibility to get the paperwork and meet the original deadline -- no extensions!!
- Use the course listing (AVAILABLE COURSES AT FHS section) to call (better -- email admissions office) future colleges and ask if they will accept these courses to "transfer" (use the full course number -- both MAC and Missouri Baptist University course numbers are listed)
- Complete the proper application (& recommendation form, if needed), if you decide to take these courses for college credit -- some students will take courses through MAC, MoBap, or a class through one and another class through the other; NOTE: students wishing to take more than 18 credit hours TOTAL in a semester must have prior "overload" approval from MAC's Academic Dean, which is not automatic and is based on prior course-load and MAC GPA; see Ms. Andrea Richardson. Additionally, make sure that you have no "HOLD" at MAC -- meaning that your prior bill/fines have been paid in full prior to turning in the new application; also, if your previous bill was sent to collections, your "hold" will not be removed until the bill has been paid and you have the collection company notify MAC that the bill has been paid in full.
- IF you were awarded the MAC 42 Hr Gen Ed Block Scholarship, complete the ORANGE "Tuition Waiver Form" listing ALL classes you are taking THIS SEMESTER (MAC dual credit & dual enrollment) and turn it in with your application by the deadline, be sure to attach any required copies if dual enrollment classes are included-- REMINDER: SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED IN MAY OF EACH YEAR FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR. There are no scholarships available at this time for anyone else. AND A+ doesn't cover MAC classes while you are still in high school (there are no other scholarships available
- ***NEW FA18: College NOW and CareerTech Scholarships will both be replaced by the new "42 Hr Gen Ed Block Scholarship" -- same application deadline of last Friday in February, but now open for 9th-11th to apply for acceptance the next school year; must have a minimum ACT composite score of 21 to apply and it must be listed in SIS prior to the February app deadline; the December test is the last test to guarantee scores are received by the deadline.
- Proper SIGNATURES (student AND parent) are required, in cursive. Be sure to turn in all completed paperwork on or before the deadline, with or without payment.
- Pick up your copy of your application after about 4 weeks (listen for announcement or watch for email); use this copy as your bill -- you pay directly to the college; attached will be a letter with a list of things to do -- READ EVERY WORD & FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS!
- If you have a MAC application: log in as soon as you receive your password in the mail (theoretically! -- there is a login and password lookup NOW available on the MyMAC page at www.mineralarea.edu) and be sure that you are enrolled in the correct MAC classes. You must proof read all letter/number course codes on your application with what is listed in the computer because it must match PERFECTLY, & verify your account balances/payment credits. LINK BELOW HAS DIRECTIONS TO LOG IN TO MYMAC (& look up ID and PASSWORD/EMAIL the first time)
- If you have a Missouri Baptist University application: You will log into the MOBAP student website at www.mobap.edu/EXCEL as soon as you receive your SpartanSpace login and password via your email address that you listed on your application - it is best to use a NON-FHS email account since your account will be deleted once you graduate FHS. You must verify that you are enrolled in the correct course (see item 7 above because it is the same process) AND BE SURE TO PAY prior to deadline (Fall 11/15, Spring 4/15) AND call/email to verify receipt of payment; MAKE sure your payment clears your bank/credit card; if you do not pay them by the deadline, they DROP you from your courses WITHOUT NOTICE and there is no appeal!
- If you plan to complete your MAC AA or Applied AS degree while in high school, be sure to complete the required MAC Advisement Request Form ASAP (Even if you've already met with Ms Richardson). The form is found under the FORMS tab, and is called "MAC Dual Credit Associates of Arts and Associate of Applied Sciences Application."
